Appealing to our religion to push our political and social sensibilities is not what Jesus died for. And when we make it about that, it becomes more exclusive than the very inclusive Gospel. It sets up dividing lines that God never put there; boundaries that He sent His Son to break, walls that were torn down in the death of Christ.
It’s been my experience that All Saints’ Day, celebrated on November 1st and observed on the first Sunday following, gets overshadowed by the celebration of Reformation Day. This often overlooked church holiday embraces every major aspect of Christianity and grounds the Christian in realities only realized in Christ.
On September 15th we held a City Event in Hattiesburg, Mississippi at Saint Johns Lutheran Church. It was an incredible day of teaching, singing and fellowship. This is my fifteenth year on staff at Bible camp. The path to the snack shop is well worn, and I’m an expert at carpet ball. The closing ceremonies of camp are routine after a decade in the ministry. The speaker closes his final message, slapping his Bible against the podium.
You may have seen the uproar from a recent blog post suggesting that virgins who forego college, learn to cook big meals and abstain from tattoos make more desirable wives. CHF City Events are one-day conferences we hold in different cities around the country. These events are filled with great teaching, singing and fellowship. So far we have been to Dallas, New York, Detroit, Minot and we're just getting started.
